I'm Heather Holliday — the creator behind Jo & Sandy's Sourdough and founder of the Micro Bakery Directory.
My story began the same way many of yours did — with a jar of wild yeast bubbling away on the counter and a dream to share something real.
What started as a simple desire to feed my family grew into a passion for connecting people through bread.
I named my sourdough business after my late mother and mother-in-law, Joanne and Sandra, two incredible women who taught me that love and nourishment begin in the kitchen.
As I shared my starter with others, I met hundreds of home bakers doing the same — quietly kneading before sunrise, baking from cottage kitchens, selling loaves at markets, feeding neighbors, and strengthening communities.
But one thing stood out again and again: These bakers weren't easy to find.
They were hidden behind social-media pages, DMs, and word-of-mouth sales. Customers were searching for them… but there was no simple way to connect the two.
That's when I knew something had to change.
